According to William Smith, Director of Global Education and Impact at the Texas International Education Consortium, collaboration between universities is beneficial for students both at home and abroad (TIEC).

The establishment of new campuses is an advantage of a statewide consortium, the term used when individuals, companies, and organisations within a state pool their resources to achieve a common goal.

In the case of Prince Mohammad University (PMU), a private institution in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, TIEC was the primary contractor in charge of designing the programmes, establishing the organisational structure, and managing the operational aspects.

Support for courses of study, including English-language instruction and the creation of individualised programmes, are additional advantages.

It’s clear that a powerful statewide consortium can be created when all of these elements are brought together. Smith, speaking at the MACEE@60 event in Putrajaya, Malaysia’s administrative capital, said, “You have universities that are ready to internationalise and now have the capacity to do so.”

A major part of Malaysia’s plan for expanding access to higher education has involved encouraging international universities to establish branch campuses in the country. Some examples would be Heriot-Watt University Malaysia, Nottingham University Malaysia, and Reading University Malaysia.

TIEC was established in 1985 with the goal of promoting greater globalisation of Texas’ universities. They do this by bringing opportunities to the local community and spreading Texas’s expertise around the world through international partnerships and a global network.

The Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) is a binational commission established to promote educational and cultural exchange opportunities between Malaysia and the US. The MACEE@60 event is the first of many celebrations commemorating MACEE’s 60th anniversary.
